State Representative Kirk England Files for Re-election
On December 6, 2007, State Representative Kirk England filed for re-election at the Dallas County Democratic Headquarters. England, a life-long Grand Prairie resident emphasized his desire to continue serving his hometown in the Texas House of Representatives.
"I was born and raised in Grand Prairie, Marcy and I raised our two sons here," said England. "Serving as State Representative for Grand Prairie and South Irving has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I look forward to returning to Austin to fight for our community."
During the 2007 legislative session, Rep. England distinguished himself as a leader on a number of key issues. England helped lead the fight for the Children's Health Insurance Program and for an across-the-board pay raise for Texas public school teachers. Additionally, as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, England worked to provide almost $100 million to increase border security.
"I am proud to have helped write the bill that will make children's health insurance available for thousands of hardworking Texas families. In regards to our public school teachers, they deserved every penny they received this past legislative session and more. We still have a lot of work to do on these and many other important issues" continued England. "Next session, my priorities will include working to make sure Texas colleges and universities remain affordable for middle class families, controlling sky-rocketing utility bills, and securing our borders.
England was first elected to the House in the spring 2006 special election, then re-elected in the 2006 general election. "I am excited about the 2008 campaign," England concluded. "Our list of supporters has grown significantly since the first election and everyday more friends, neighbors, and community leaders sign up to join the campaign. Over the coming months we are going to work hard and run an aggressive campaign to earn the votes of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents from across House District 106."
